My perfect day involves poop

There are very few days that I go to bed feeling like I was the best person I could have been, today was one of those days.
What made today perfect?
A couple things:  1.  I got to spend quality time with each of my kids.
2. Each kid made an impact on our family.
3. I did something for myself.
4. The day ended with everyone smiling.

My morning started with a little bit of sleeping in while my husband played video games.  Of course my preschooler doesn't believe in sleeping in and she wanted to play barbies.  So I got up and had coffee and barbies.
I go grocery shopping on the weekends, every weekend.  This is one of those chores that can go either way.  Today was nice because my eldest daughter joined me.  It was just the two of us.  She is fun and was in a good mood.
When we got back it was time to clean up the yard.  Cleaning up after three dogs may not seem like an activity that makes for a perfect day.  Don't get me wrong, shoveling poop isn't something I enjoy but watching my son and youngest daughter help makes me smile.  It was a beautiful day out and the work needed to be done.  The three of us pitched in and spent an hour and a half cleaning and playing.  I believe that everyone needs to help around the house and that comes with its own rewards.
After cleaning and shopping it was time to take care of myself.  Sundays are my long run days.  I run alone on Sundays and really enjoy the me time.  That time allows me to relax and work through anything I am wrestling with.  Today, I didn't have any worries besides a sore knee so I did a quick circle and was back in under 40 minutes.
My heart was full and my smile grew as I ran onto our street and saw my husband and little one were still outside.  The littlest one was riding her bike when I left and had apparently continued biking in between a soccer tourney with her sister and game of tag with her dad. I spent another 30 minutes playing with them before heading inside.
The day ended with a great dinner.  I made breakfast for dinner which everyone loves.  The kids all ate and the food disappeared!
I guess my point is that perfect is what you make of it. Happy kids who are an active and helpful part of our family with parents who enjoy their own passions are likely to make the perfect families you see on Facebook and TV.
So my perfect day involved picking up poop and I'm perfectly ok with that.

I Didn't Die on the Mountain

I didn't die on the mountain, although at the starting line I was having visions of my body being found by skiers this winter .       http://runtherut.com/ The back of the expo.     The expo before the 11k start             First turn The 11k starting line Wave 3!!     I toed the starting line of the 11k race in The Rut Mountain Runs on Sunday, September 2.  I knew it would be the most technical trail run I had ever done and the highest but I had trained, or so I thought. The Rut Mountain Runs are part of the Skyrunner USA series.  They take place at Big Sky Ski Resort just outside of Bozeman, Montana.  There are several race options including the Vk, 11k, 28k and 50k.  If you are one of those crazy ultra runner types you can combine the races as the Vk is on Friday, the 28k is on Saturday and the 11k and 50k are on Sunday.  All ...

Disney in the Rain

So you wake up and look out your resort window and it is a torrential downpour.  You have two options, curl back up in bed and wait out the storm or throw together your park bag with a couple extras and head out.  We always chose a park day.  Rain days are less crowded because many locals don't drive in and there are plenty of people who chose the wait it out option.  If you are going to do a rain day here are a couple advantages and a couple pieces of advice.  Do note that some rides, shops and shows will not run if it is raining hard or there is lightning in the area, but this isn't the majority.  On our last trip during Spring Break it poured in the morning and early afternoon on our Animal Kingdom day.  Let's start with what to wear and pack to make sure this doesn't go sideways: 1.  You'll need a rain coat or poncho.  I bring a rain coat for rainy days and save my $.99 poncho for the water rides.  My mom brings an u...

Disney for the whole family?

Sydnee is 6 in this photo. I have been traveling with my family to Disney for more than a decade. My first trip as a parent was in 2003 when my eldest daughter was 4 and my son was 2.  I took my mom, my best friend and my sister with us to Disneyland.   At the time I was on active duty stationed in Washington, DC and my mom and sister lived in Montana so I didn't see them that often.  We had an amazing time and the Disney trips soon became a tradition.  Many of my friends ask me when is the best time to take the trip and who should go. Is Nana too old for Disney?  Should we wait until the baby is older?  Are my teens going to be bored? The short answer is MAYBE but probably not.  In today's blog I will give you pros and cons on these and some other frequently asked questions. Lets start with some basic questions you should ask yourself.  Is this going to be a once in a lifetime trip?  What is the goal of this...
