When you go to Walt Disney World you can expect to spend some serious cash but not everything is super expensive.  Here is a list of 5 things that are free or low cost extras that can add magic to your trip.
1. Water - OK, so water may seem silly but it is hot in Florida and you can get thirsty. I always bring a water bottle with me and fill it up but you don't need one. Any quick service restaurant (and Starbucks) will give you a free glass of ice water. Starbucks and a couple other restaurants have big crafts of water just sitting out where you can fill your water bottle. PRO TIP: don't love the taste of tap water? Pack some flavored water packets or the small squirt bottles and mix your own lemonade, etc. (Bottled water is available for purchase and is about $5-7 per bottle.)
2. Souvenirs - You can get free park maps, free celebration buttons, and stickers to take home. My kids love collecting stickers and you can get them from most Cast Members (except in Animal Kingdom). Celebration buttons are fun and can result in extra magic during the day. PRO TIP: Write on your button in sharpie and then cover the writing with scotch tape so it doesn't smudge. You can also collect pressed pennies and they have machines that press them all over the park. They are usually $.51 for one or 8 for $5 if they get a little fancier.
3. Haircuts - You can get your kid's (or your) haircut at the Harmony Barber Shop for less than $20. If you want to do the My First Haircut Package, you can get special Mickey Ears with your kiddos haircut for only $25. After they get their haircut the great stylist will add Pixie Dust (confetti) for extra fun. (This required reservations in advance so call (407) 939-5277 up to 180 days in advance of your trip.)
4. Sorcerers of Magic Kingdom cards - These cards are part of a game you can play while at Magic Kingdom. Stop by the fire station and pick up your first set. They will explain how you play the game and what you need to do to get more cards. Anyone in your party can play and it is something you can do at any time of day. The cards interact with cameras in windows around the park and special things happen when you flash them. it's like Pokémon and Disney combined.
5. Kidcot and Wilderness Adventures - KidCot is in Epcot World Showcase and Wilderness Adventures are at Animal Kingdom. They are both activity based and allow you to explore each section of the park with a Cast Member to interact with. I think of them as self-guided tours for kids. They are a great way to get your kids excited to move from one area to the next and learn a little something along the way.
There are a ton more but I'll save some for the next post.
