Disney's Memory Maker or PhotoPass

This is an example of a Magic Shot.  We got the original and
then they added the words and the ghosts.

Going to Disney can be a once in a lifetime experience and you will make memories that you may want to document.  Disney offers a service called PhotoPass in their parks.  PhotoPass is a service where professional photographers take photos of you and you can purchase them.  PhotoPass also includes those fun photos of you crying in terror on rides.

This is a ride photo from Buzz Lightyear
There are a several of options available when you go to purchase these photos.
1. Purchase each photo separately (unlimited downloads)
2. Purchase unlimited downloads from a single day
3. Purchase Memory Maker ($169 as of 10/18) unlimited downloads of all the photos from your entire trip for a year

I recommend purchasing Memory Maker in advance (it is $30 cheaper).  It is discounted if you are military and included in some annual passes.  Having access to all your vacation photos immediately is super fun and adds to the excitement.  Plus you can be in the photos and not just behind the camera.  In order to make the most of you Memory Maker here are some suggestions.

We asked the photographer
to shoot us celebrating with our coffees. We had
left the rest of our family at the
resort and were hitting the big rides.
Character Meeting
1.  Any time you see a PhotoPass photographer ask them to snap a picture.  Don't just have one photo. have multiples.  You can do different poses and have different people in your party in them.
2. Share with friends and family so everyone on your trip can get photos even if you aren't together.
3. Ask for Magic Shots.  These are special effects that they add to your photos after they are taken.  Almost every photographer can do one.
4. Be polite but specific if you want something special or different.  These are professional photographers so they can make you look great.
5. Be sure to get the photo cards on interactive experiences like Enchanted Tales with Belle or the Jedi Training Academy.  They will download the photos from that experience to your account.

Sometimes photographers have props.
This is one of my favorites and
because you get so many photos my kids
tend to act goofy in most of them.
6.  There are PhotoPass photographers at the majority of the character encounters so you can capture photos with your favorite princess or character.
I used Memory Maker on my honeymoon and we stood in front of the photographer during the fireworks at Magic Kingdom and I have some of the most amazing photos you have ever seen.

While on vacation you can access your photos on the MyDisney Experience App and when you get home you can download them all at once on your PC.

If you still aren't convinced and want to save the money here are a couple other hints.

1.  You can order Memory Maker after your trip, it's a little more expensive but not bad.
2. You can take your own photos.
3.  PhotoPass photographers and any Cast Member will take your photo using your device.  All you need to do is ask nice.

As a reminder. Disney doesn't pay me, give me anything for free or endorse (or probably read) my blog in any way.  All opinions expressed here are my own.

Disney for the whole family?

Sydnee is 6 in this photo. I have been traveling with my family to Disney for more than a decade. My first trip as a parent was in 2003 when my eldest daughter was 4 and my son was 2.  I took my mom, my best friend and my sister with us to Disneyland.   At the time I was on active duty stationed in Washington, DC and my mom and sister lived in Montana so I didn't see them that often.  We had an amazing time and the Disney trips soon became a tradition.  Many of my friends ask me when is the best time to take the trip and who should go. Is Nana too old for Disney?  Should we wait until the baby is older?  Are my teens going to be bored? The short answer is MAYBE but probably not.  In today's blog I will give you pros and cons on these and some other frequently asked questions. Lets start with some basic questions you should ask yourself.  Is this going to be a once in a lifetime trip?  What is the goal of this...

Strollers and Wheelchairs in Disney

I had a friend tell me once that her son (4) didn't do strollers.  They were about to do a 3-day trip to Disneyland and this was her first trip as a parent.  I recommended she still get a stroller and here's why.  Maybe your kid doesn't use a stroller when you are doing normally daily stuff but does your kid log 10 or more miles a day normally?  Does your kiddo need a mid-day nap?  Imagine a trip to the park, what do you carry with you?  Do you want to carry that all day long?  So my friend did ended up renting a stroller and they used it.  There were times when their kid wasn't super happy about it but he was over tired and they just didn't want to carry him, so he rode.  He took one stroller nap and otherwise the stroller carried my friend's backpack/diaper bag most of the time so she didn't have to and that was ok, too.  Sydnee (5) in our garage sale stroller On the other hand, my kiddo LOVES riding in a stroller.  We h...

Disney in the Rain

So you wake up and look out your resort window and it is a torrential downpour.  You have two options, curl back up in bed and wait out the storm or throw together your park bag with a couple extras and head out.  We always chose a park day.  Rain days are less crowded because many locals don't drive in and there are plenty of people who chose the wait it out option.  If you are going to do a rain day here are a couple advantages and a couple pieces of advice.  Do note that some rides, shops and shows will not run if it is raining hard or there is lightning in the area, but this isn't the majority.  On our last trip during Spring Break it poured in the morning and early afternoon on our Animal Kingdom day.  Let's start with what to wear and pack to make sure this doesn't go sideways: 1.  You'll need a rain coat or poncho.  I bring a rain coat for rainy days and save my $.99 poncho for the water rides.  My mom brings an u...
